Purchase the right cleaning products and tools. Proper household tools are half the job. The following are the most essential tools.
- Window wipers (30 or 35 cm wide) and lightweight telescope handle - Only use to clean windows. To keep the rubber tight and smooth, avoid contact with rough surfaces.
- Broom - One for indoor cleaning and one for the porch.
- Dust pan and brush - Always handy.
- Feather duster - To clean hard-to-reach places, dust off paintings, lamps, tubes, etc.
- Disposable dust cloths - Use instead of dusters. Impregnated paper holds the dust instead of spreading it around. It’s disposable, and prevents dust traps.
- Cleaning cloth - For all cleaning jobs.
- Dry sponge - For use on smooth walls, ceilings and wallpaper. Throw away immediately when dirty or black.
- Floor scourer - Excellent for scrubbing hard floors, especially the corners.
- Mop - For use on all smooth floors.
- Floor-cloth - For the wet jobs.
- Scourer - For scrubbing taps, showers and sinks. Always wet before using.
- Toilet brush - A big and solid one to help reduce the use of toilet cleaners.
- Bucket - Preferably on wheels for mopping floors. If you have a big house, choose one with a compartment for cleaning products to easily move around the house with everything you need.
- Disinfectant cleaning products - Dilute with water for cleaning the bathroom and mopping floors.
- Cleansing agents - For mopping floors, cleaning painted surfaces and other jobs that don’t require disinfection. Can also be used to remove fingerprints from furniture.
