When you’re renovating or rebuilding, bear in mind that certain materials contain substances that can be harmful when used in high quantities.

Chipboards, MDF and plywood, a few recommendations:
  • Bear in mind that chipboards, MDF and plywood contain formaldehyde. A high concentration of this substance can be harmful to your health. Therefore, always process these materials outdoors.
  • Don’t use chipboards in places that can become humid and warm. Take care of extra ventilation after new furniture is placed.
Painting, a few recommendations:
  • Use water-soluble paint, high solid paint or linseed oil paint whenever possible. These paints emit less noxious fumes. This is particularly important for spaces where children reside, for example the nursery. Children are more sensitive to these fumes than adults.
  • Preferably use a brush instead of spray-painting.
  • Take care of proper ventilation while the paint is drying. It can take days before the smell of paint disappears completely.
  • Preferably use a heat gun instead of paint strippers.
Sawing and sanding
  • Prevent dust development as much as possible. Saw or sand outdoors as much as possible. Moisten the wood before sawing to prevent dust. A sanding machine with a dust bag also helps.
  • Do not saw or sand asbestos-containing materials.
