Kooyman, your Caribbean hardware-, building materials- and home improvement store!

Press Release

Oranjestad, Aruba, April 29, 2011 - Kooyman Aruba N.V. announced today that she will move her existing stores, both the one from Dakota as well as the one from Cura Cabai, to the new location at
Primavera. For the Cura Cabai store this means that it will close its doors on Saturday, May 14th. For the store at Dakota this means that this store will move once the new store at Primavera opens its doors. This is expected to be during the course of the fourth quarter of 2011.

Friday afternoon last, the employees of Kooyman Cura Cabai were informed about this decision by the management. At said occasion they were informed that all employees will keep their jobs with related employment and accrued benefits. As of Monday, May 16th they will be either employed for the set up of the new store or will come support their colleagues at the Dakota store. From that moment on they will also undergo the same intensive trainings as their colleagues at Dakota in anticipation of the opening of the new Mega Store.

To most of the employees the decision did not come as a surprise, considering that in the past few months the staff was consulted a number of times on the decision to be made on whether or not to relocate the store. The decision to integrate both stores in the new store at Primavera therefore was made after careful consideration of arguments for and against relocation and intensive contact with all those involved.

In addition customer interest weighed heavily. Kooyman is convinced that it can keep on servicing a substantial part of the needs of its clients around Cura Cabai. She will do this among others by offering her clients even more intensive personal attention from her account managers and also by intensifying her transportation services to the region.

Furthermore, the interests of the employees were carefully considered. In Kooyman’s vision employees benefit particularly from job security, career perspectives and personal development through training and education opportunities. In case of relocation, all these aspects are complied with to a significantly higher extent, due to economies of scale, than in case the employees would not move along. Besides the input of the staff of both existing subsidiaries, Kooyman expects it will require at least 10 to 15 additional employees to be able to reach the desired level of service at her new subsidiary. The recruitment of these new staff members is currently in full swing. These staff members too will be trained intensively to be able to offer the client in the new Primavera Mega Store the service that Kooyman customers are accustomed to.
