You might not realize it, but colors can have a sincere effect on your mood and behaviour. Several ancient cultures used colors to treat ill people. Though the meaning of colors may vary between different cultures, there are some universal perceptives of colors.

Use this information when choosing your color palette to create your perfect interior.

Blue is mellow and calming. Blue hues are soothing and reduce stress. Think of how the blue sea can affect your mood. Blue lowers the heartbeat and the blood pressure and relaxes body and mind. Because blue stimulates the communication, it is a very popular color for conference halls. Another advantage of a blue space is the refreshing effect.  A space where a lot of white and blue hues have been used will be a degree cooler than a space painted in red and brown hues.

Yellow is the color of the Caribbean. Yellow is warm, reminds of the sun and has an invigorating effect. According to psychologists, yellow is related to control, will and ego. Yellow encourages logical thinking and stimulates the metabolism.  Yellow illuminates a space. However, do not choose a bright yellow for a nursery. Research has shown that babies tend to cry more in bright yellow spaces.

Green is balanced, harmonious and comforting. Green reminds of nature and calms the emotions, but it also gives energy and strength. Think of how a green garden or park can affect your mood. That’s why green is the perfect color for rooms you spend a lot of time in.

Purple provokes thought and provides deepening. This color stimulates contemplation and introspection and increases self-esteem, intuition, insight and creativity.  Purple is a soothing and comforting color and therefore perfect for a study.

Red is the color of energy and survival.  Red has an activating effect. Think of the red rag at a bullfight. This color stands for strength and vitality, but also for love and passion. Because red is arousing and stimulates the blood circulation, it’s better to avoid using this colour in a nursery. Your child could become hyperactive. In our tropical climate red is not ideal as it brings more warmth.

White stands for purity. It brings serenity and tranquillity and has a purifying effect on the mind. Especially in our tropical climate, white is the perfect color for warm spaces. It reflects light and therefore brings coolness. Using white is refreshing.
