Step 1: Choose the right color

Painting kitchen tiles is a great way to refresh your space without the cost of replacing them. Search online for some ideas and come to the store for some swatches.

Step 2: Measure your space

Be sure to measure the surface area of the tiles in your kitchen. Write the measurements down.

Step 3: Buy supplies

Take your measurements with you to your local Kooyman store to get the right amount of primer and paint. While your paint is mixed into the color and finish of your choosing, pick up the rest of the necessary supplies.

Step 4: Clear your space

Now that you have everything you need, clear off your countertop space to make it easy to work. Also remove any outlets in the area, to prevent paint coming on them.

Step 5: Clean the tiles

Next, it's important to clean all the tiles very thoroughly to remove any grease or grime. Rinse and dry them completely before heading to the next step.

Step 6: Sanding

After cleaning the tiles, we're going to lightly sand them with 220 grit sandpaper. Sanding will help the paint adhere to the tiles better. When done, wipe the dust off with a damp cloth.

Step 7: Prep work

Use painter’s tape around countertops, cabinets, and walls. Cover counters and stovetops with a drop cloth to prevent drips.

Step 8: Primer

Before the layer of paint, you'll want to apply a primer that is suitable for kitchen tiles. Apply one thin coat using the paint roller. Be sure to allow it to dry completely and apply a second layer of primer per the product instructions.

Step 9: Paint

If you use the right primer for the job, you’re free to choose any color of Kooyman Kitchen & Bath Wall Paint. Apply one or two thin coats, allowing proper drying time between coats. Refer to the packaging for your product’s instructions. A roller will give a smoother finish, while a brush is great for the grout lines.

Step 10: Almost done

Now that we applied all the necessary coats and the paint is fully dried, it’s time to remove the painter’s tape and drop cloth. Don’t forget to place your outlets back. It’s time to enjoy this fresh space. And, of course, to continue to the next step in our kitchen refresh!

Tools
  • Adjustable wrench

  • Basin wrench tool

  • Waterpump pliers

  • Work light

  • Bucket

Materials
  • New faucet

  • Old towels

Step 1: Choose the right faucet

Upgrading to a pull-down faucet is a great way to improve both style and functionality in your kitchen.

Go to the Kooyman website or store for inspiration. Make sure your sink configuration matches the faucet type.

Tip: Count how many holes are in your sink. Most modern pull-down faucets fit single-hole setups, but deck plates can cover extra holes if needed.

Step 2: Shut off the water

Turn off the hot and cold water valves under your sink. Then open the old faucet to release the pressure.

Step 3: Remove the old faucet

Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that might be left, and have some towels in reach to be safe. Use a wrench to disconnect the supply lines. Loosen the mounting nuts with a basin wrench and remove the faucet.

Step 4: Install the new faucet

Insert the pull-down hose through the faucet body and then through the sinkhole. If needed, use a deck plate to cover unused holes. Tighten everything from underneath using the basin wrench.

Step 5: Connect the water lines

Attach the hot and cold lines to the correct shut-off valves. Use plumber’s tape if needed and avoid over-tightening.

Step 6: Test

Turn the water back on slowly. Check for leaks and test the pull-down feature to make sure everything works.

Installing LED strip lights under your cabinets is a quick and effective way to add both style and function to your kitchen. They help brighten your workspace, highlight your backsplash, and give your kitchen a modern feel, without the need for complex wiring.

Here’s how you can install them in just a few simple steps.

Step 1: Measure your cabinets

Use a measuring tape to decide where to place the strip lights.

Step 2: Plan your power source

Decide where you’ll plug in the lights and make sure it’s close enough. Or, like we’re doing, use battery operated lights to avoid that extra work.

Step 3: Install the lights

Peel off the adhesive backing and stick the LED lights in place with the magnets still attached. Press firmly.

Step 4: Test them

Turn on the lights using the handy remote, switch to the light type you like (cool or warm) and enjoy the new atmosphere.
