Each year, the Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1st and lasts 5 months, with storms typically peaking in August and September. Though the start of the season is upon us; the Caribbean and the world is still reeling from the public health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
This may cause a delay in preparation for the hurricane season, with many families, who’d rather save their money until a sign of a storm or hurricane is upon us. A great deal of residents are saying “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it”, however as a community, we cannot wait until a storm is here to prepare. Many tropical meteorology experts are forecasting above-normal activity and despite COVID-19 pandemic, therefore residents must prepare to secure their homes and gather sufficient supplies in the event of a Hurricane.

What supplies do you need to prepare for a hurricane?
Ahead of a potentially devastating storms this 2020 hurricane season, the Kooyman Mega Store recommends having the following supplies on hand:
- Water - 3 day supply
- Food (non perishable) 3 day supply
- Battery operated Radio
- A Flashlight
- A First aid kit
- Medication (7 day supply)
- Extra cash

- Chlorine bleach + disinfectant
- Garbage bags
- Rain gear
- Personal hygiene items
- Important documents in a waterproof container
