Preparation:

Remove old paint

Usa a paint scraper to remove any loose or flaking paint. Be careful not to damage the wood.

Sand the surface
Sand the window frame to smooth out rough areas and ensure a good surface for the primer and paint adhere to. Use medium grit sandpaper first, followed by fine grit for a smoother finish. A power sander can speed up the process.

Clean the frame

Wipe down the frame with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris from sanding. Allow it to dry completely.

Repair and fill:

Inspect for damage
Look for any cracks, holes, or damaged areas in the wood.

Fill holes and cracks
Use a wood filler to repair any imperfections. Apply the filler with a putty knife and smooth it out. Let it dry completely.

Sand again

Once the filler is dry, sand the filled areas smooth to match the rest of the frame.

Protect surrounding areas:

Use painter's tape to mask off the glass panes and any areas you don't want to paint. Cover the surrounding areas with drop cloths or plastic sheeting to protect from paint splatters.

Prime the frame:
Apply primer

Dry time

Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 24 hours.

Paint the frame:

TIP: which sheen to choose?
Because of the tropical climate semi-gloss is generally the best choice due to its balance of durability, moisture resistance and aesthetic appeal.
It provides sufficient protection and ease of maintenance without overly emphasizing imperfections.
However, for maximum durability and an elegant, polished look, high-gloss is an excellent option, especially if the window frames are in good condition and well-prepared.

Stir the paint

Stir the paint thoroughly to ensure even color and consistency.

Apply paint

Use a brush to apply the paint, starting with the edges and corners, and then moving to the larger surfaces. Apply the paint in long, smooth strokes, following the direction of the wood grain.

Allow the paint to dry and apply at least two coats of paint for a durable finish.

The finishing touch

Well done! Carefully remove the painter's tape, clean the area and the brushes and enjoy the results.
