How to Make a Home Command Center

Get organized by creating a home command center using these tips and tricks to make the most of an empty wall. It can be placed in a central location in your home or in your home office space.

A home command center can be created with different sections for organizing and it can be as big or small as preferred.

A chalk board can be very useful for leaving messages, noting down a shopping list, to-do list, agenda, weekly menu or bucket list. It is also very easy to make. The same applies to a bulletin board. It’s a great addition to your command center to pin important files, pictures, cards and decorations.

Start by picking out two wooden planks and cut them in the size that fits your space. Give them a gentle sanding to make it smooth. For the first one, your chalkboard, grab some primer and give the top and sides a good coat. As for the second plank, your bulletin board, just focus on the sides with the primer. Give it some time to dry and then repeat the process with some chalk paint for that special touch. Next, grab a cork roll and secure it on top of the second plank with some glue. Patience is key – wait for it to dry completely. Once it's all set, use a Stanley knife to cut the cork roll to the perfect size.

The next step is getting these planks on the wall. Measure twice, drill holes in the wall, and then attach those handy corner brackets with screws. Don't forget the planks – drill holes in those too, and then secure them to the corner brackets with screws.

A file organizer can be useful to organize your paperwork, magazines and mail. Attach it with screws to the wall. Incorporate a place to keep your keys by adding an organizer with hooks. You can find the one we use here at Kooyman.

You can create this home command center however you like. You can add picture frames, mirrors, flowerpots, decoration tools or simplify it with file organizers.

center that suits your needs.
