The household cord or VMvL cord consists of two or three wires (blue for zero and brown for phase with possibly green-yellow for earth as third wire) in a PVC jacket. The veins consist of a number of thinner conductors to make the cord smooth. Household cords are suitable for a nominal voltage of 300/500 V. The cords with two wires are usually flat, the one with three wires around. The usual conductor cross sections are 0.75, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.5 mm².
