VD wire or installation wire is a single-core wire that is used for electrical installations in the house. The wire is pulled through electrical tubes that are installed in or on the wall. The pipes go to central or junction boxes from which branches to lamps and sockets run to connect them.
VD wires are made of copper with different cross-sections and have a blue, brown, black or green-yellow PVC insulation. Blue is used for the neutral wire, brown for phase, black for switching wire and green-yellow for earth. The abbreviation VD refers to vinyl wire (vinyl is another name for PVC).
