Armando Goedgedrag, Aruba
The Artist
Armando Goedgedrag is a renowned painter, photographer and multimedia specialist with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Multimedia Design and a Master’s in Animation. Growing up in Aruba, he is inspired by his island's nature. One of his goals is to bring awareness of the beauty of nature and help in preservation efforts.
The Location
For the mural location, Armando and Kooyman collaborated to select the EPB Hato school, in the capital of Oranjestad. EPB Hato prepares students for the labor market, society and further education. With great passion they work towards sustainable thinking and acting, and a sustainable future for the youth in Aruba.
The Mural
"Since Aruba’s burrowing owl, the "Shoco" is the National Symbol of the island, it fits nicely for the school, as owls symbolize wisdom and knowledge," says Armando.
"I used reference photograph that I took of the Shoco staring at the sunrise which matches the words: "E Futuro ta Briyante" - "The Future is bright."
The Message:
"Growing up on an island with so many vibrant colors, color has meaning in many ways such as inspiration, connection, feelings and emotions. I hope this mural sparks creativity, encourages positive ideas and conversations."
Kooyman is proud to have Armando as a part of the "Colors of the Caribbean" project, as we celebrate 85 years of serving our island communities.
