In this guide, we’ll take you through everything from planning and measuring to assembly, accessories, and maintenance, ensuring you get the most out of your new closet. 

Before you start designing your closet, take a moment to consider what you need: What items will you store? Clothing, shoes, accessories, tools, or supplies? 

How often will you need access to them? Daily essentials should be within easy reach, while seasonal or rarely used items can be stored higher up. 

A well-planned closet starts with accurate measurements. Grab a measuring tape or laser measurer and carefully note down: 

With your measurements ready, it’s time to select the right main frame for your space. 

Start by visiting the Kooyman website to browse different sizes, colors, and configurations.

Then, we recommend you visit the Extenso display in-store, if your store has one, to see the finishes in person and get advice from a Kooyman expert. 

Now that the main frame is set, it’s time to choose the internal sections: 

Shelves – Perfect for folded clothes, baskets, or storage boxes.

Drawers – Great for smaller items and keeping things tidy.

Hanging rods – Essential for dresses, coats, and shirts.

Doors & finishes – Match your closet to your room’s aesthetic. 

Before assembly, get your tools and supplies ready. Please see the list at the top of this article to know what you'll need.

Closet assembly often requires two people, especially for securing heavy frames. Ensure you always prioritize safety by working in a clean, organized space. 

Now, it’s time to bring your closet to life! 

 With the main frame set up, it’s time to add the interior storage elements: 

• Drawers – Assemble them first, attaching the sides, front, and back. Secure the runners inside the frame, then slide the drawers in place.
• Shelves – Insert the four shelf pegs at the desired height and rest the shelves securely on top.
• Hanging Rods – Measure and mark the correct height, then install the brackets before putting the rod into place. 

Doors complete the look of your closet, but due to their size and weight, you’ll need a second person to help: 

1. Lay the doors flat and attach all hardware according to the instructions.

2. Decide whether you want them to open left or right.

3. Secure the hinges to the inside of the closet.

4. Carefully attach and align the doors before fastening the handles.

5. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure smooth opening and closing.
