There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a well-organized space. A properly designed closet and the right organization accessories can save you time, reduce stress, and help protect your belongings.
Kooyman offers an incredible storage solution with the Parisot Extenso Closet System—a fully customizable system designed to fit your space and needs perfectly.
In this guide, we’ll take you through everything from planning and measuring to assembly, accessories, and maintenance, ensuring you get the most out of your new closet.
1. Planning your organization goals
Before you start designing your closet, take a moment to consider what you need: What items will you store? Clothing, shoes, accessories, tools, or supplies?
How often will you need access to them? Daily essentials should be within easy reach, while seasonal or rarely used items can be stored higher up.

2. Measuring your space
A well-planned closet starts with accurate measurements. Grab a measuring tape or laser measurer and carefully note down:
-
Width: Measure from wall to wall.
-
Height: Measure from floor to ceiling.
-
Depth: Measure how deep the space is.
-
Obstructions: Take note of light switches, outlets, vents, or doors that could impact installation.
If you want doors on your closet, make sure to account for the door’s swing. Measure everything twice and save the details on your phone for easy reference.
3. Choose the main frame
With your measurements ready, it’s time to select the right main frame for your space.
Start by visiting the Kooyman website to browse different sizes, colors, and configurations.
Then, we recommend you visit the Extenso display in-store, if your store has one, to see the finishes in person and get advice from a Kooyman expert.
4. Selecting shelves, drawers & finishes
Now that the main frame is set, it’s time to choose the internal sections:
Shelves – Perfect for folded clothes, baskets, or storage boxes.
Drawers – Great for smaller items and keeping things tidy.
Hanging rods – Essential for dresses, coats, and shirts.
Doors & finishes – Match your closet to your room’s aesthetic.

5. Gathering Tools, Supplies & Prioritizing Safety
Before assembly, get your tools and supplies ready. Please see the list at the top of this article to know what you'll need.
Closet assembly often requires two people, especially for securing heavy frames. Ensure you always prioritize safety by working in a clean, organized space.
6. Assembling the Closet Frame
Now, it’s time to bring your closet to life!
-
Follow the manual carefully for your specific frame and accessories.
-
Start by attaching the top and bottom panels to one side.
-
Secure the slats under the bottom shelf for stability.
-
Connect the second side to form the full frame.
-
Attach the back panel securely.
If you have high ceilings, you can assemble the frame on the floor and lift it into place. For lower ceilings, you may need to build it standing up.
-
Secure the frame to the wall using the provided brackets.
-
If installing multiple frames, connect them for a seamless look.
-
Use a level to ensure everything is even.
Once everything is in place, make final adjustments using the adjustable feet at the bottom.

7. Installing Drawers, Shelves & Hanging Rods
With the main frame set up, it’s time to add the interior storage elements:
-
Drawers – Assemble them first, attaching the sides, front, and back. Secure the runners inside the frame, then slide the drawers in place.
-
Shelves – Insert the four shelf pegs at the desired height and rest the shelves securely on top.
-
Hanging Rods – Measure and mark the correct height, then install the brackets before putting the rod into place.

8. Attaching Doors & Handles
Doors complete the look of your closet, but due to their size and weight, you’ll need a second person to help:
-
Lay the doors flat and attach all hardware according to the instructions.
-
Decide whether you want them to open left or right.
-
Secure the hinges to the inside of the closet.
-
Carefully attach and align the doors before fastening the handles.
-
Make any necessary adjustments to ensure smooth opening and closing.
9. Smart Storage Accessories
Now for the fun part—customizing your closet with smart storage solutions!
Kooyman offers a variety of accessories to keep your space organized:
- Baskets with handles – Easy to slide in and out.
- Clear bins – Quickly see what’s inside.
- Stackable boxes – Maximize vertical space.
- Drawer organizers – Perfect for accessories and small items.
These little additions make a huge difference in keeping your closet functional and clutter-free.

10. Maintenance & care
Your new closet is complete—now let’s keep it looking great with a few simple maintenance tips:
- Check screws, hinges, and drawer slides every few months to ensure everything stays secure.
