Hofi Chiki - Tiny Forest

As part of its ongoing commitment to a sustainable future, Kooyman is joining forces with the J.W.Th. Schotborghschool and Stichting Hòfi Chikí. This initiative emphasizes its commitment to the themes of environment and education. Kooyman, who recently celebrated its 85th anniversary, wants to show its gratitude and appreciation to the community of Curaçao with this gift. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to achieve this.

A Tiny Forest offers students a healthy, educational and interactive learning environment that allows them to experience nature in a tangible and constructive way. By involving children in the themes of sustainability and environment, an investment is made in generation that consciously deals with the world around them.

But we can't do this alone. We need collective action to protect and restore Curaçao's coral reefs. Here's how you can make a difference:

  • Practice energy conservation to address climate change and prevent coral bleaching.
  • Treat corals with care; they are living creatures that deserve our respect.
  • Say no to eating parrotfish; their protection is crucial for reef health.
  • Use moorings instead of anchors when boating to avoid damaging the reefs.
  • Recycle and dispose of trash properly to prevent marine debris.
  • Embrace the three Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle.
  • Leave no trash behind on beaches.

As a school, rooted in the community, the Schotborghschool has been actively committed to recycling, environmental awareness and reducing its ecological footprint for years. By creating a Tiny Forest in their school garden, the three parties are strengthening their efforts to raise awareness about important social issues such as climate change and nature conservation, among students.

Stichting Hòfi Chikí plays an essential role in this project, with their dedication to nature conservation and reforestation. Their mission to contribute to a healthy and sustainable future through Tiny Forests with native plants, ties in perfectly with Kooyman's 'Go Green' initiative.

"The collaboration with Hòfi Chikí and the Schotborghschool aligns with our policy to make a meaningful contribution to society," says Juri Kooyman. "This project takes a tangible step in our commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Together we are building a greener future for the youth of Curaçao."
